Thesecondopinion, a nonprofit 501(c)3 is seeking a mission-driven Medical Director to lead our free, comprehensive, multidisciplinary second opinion program serving adults in California diagnosed with cancer. 

 

This is a part-time, hybrid-remote paid position (staff or consulting arrangement) offering a unique opportunity to shape and grow an innovative, patient-centered model that expands access to expert oncology guidance at no cost to patients.

Thesecondopinion provides free, comprehensive, multidisciplinary second opinions to adults in California facing a cancer diagnosis. Our goal is to empower patients and their families with expert insight, clarity, and confidence as they navigate complex treatment decisions. 

 

Position Overview 

The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership and oversight of our virtual multidisciplinary case review program. This individual will help ensure clinical excellence, support volunteer physician reviewers, and strengthen program quality and impact. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide clinical oversight of all second opinion case reviews 
  • Recruit, engage, and support volunteer oncology specialists 
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary case conferences 
  • Ensure clinical quality, consistency, and adherence to evidence-based standards 
  • Collaborate with leadership on program development and growth strategy 
  • Represent Thesecondopinion in professional and community settings 

 

Qualifications 

  • MD or DO with board certification in oncology or a related specialty 
  • Active California medical license (required) 
  • Minimum 10 years of clinical experience preferred 
  • Experience in multidisciplinary cancer care 
  • Strong leadership and collaborative skills 
  • Passion for improving access to care and reducing disparities
