Physicians Pressure Congress to Stop Medicare Cuts
With the fate of health care reform in question, organized medicine has turned its attention to resolving the Medicare SGR problem and the 21% Medicare cuts facing physicians in March.  Every indication is that Congress will act to reverse the cuts, but the AMA and CMA have joined with AARP to fight for a full SGR repeal this year.  The House has already passed legislation to repeal the SGR and institute more stable payment updates into the future.  The Senate has not yet followed suit, but has passed legislation allowing the government to borrow up to $82 billion in order to stop the Medicare SGR cuts for at least 5 years.
