Physicians Urged to Verify Quality Data
Approximately 25,000 physicians who treat PPO or HMO patients insured by Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, and United Healthcare will receive their latest quality performance results from the California Physician Performance Initiative (CPPI) soon. The quality measures are based on insurance claims data from patient care provided in 2007-2008. Physicians will be provided with a percentile rank compared to their physician peers, as well as performance results by measure and by patient group.  CPPI is a project of the California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI), which received federal funding in 2006 to develop a system for measuring and reporting the quality of health care provided by physicians.

Physicians are encouraged to verify the accuracy of the data used to calculate their scores.  Beginning July 24, physicians can request their patient lists at the CPPI website (http://www.cchri.org/cppi).  Physicians can request that errors be corrected until September 11. CMA will also publish step-by-step instructions to assist you with the data reconsideration process. Contact the ACCMA at 510-654-5383 for more information.
