Blue Shield has changed its physician fee schedule effective June 1st to increase payment for some Evaluation and Management (E/M) services. Additionally, Blue Shield also reports that it will continue reimbursing for inpatient consultations and will not follow Medicare's 2010 policy change. Physicians can access the new rates at the Blue Shield website (under Helpful Resources click "Professional Fee Schedule," then enter "06/01/2012" in the date of service field) or by calling the Blue Shield Provider Services Department at (800) 258-3091. Physicians might also wish to consult the CMA’s “Contract Amendments Action Guide for Physicians”, which includes a financial impact worksheet to calculate the net impact of the fees on your practice.
