EHR Incentive Update: CMA Protests Stage Two “Meaningful Use” Criteria
6/7/2012
CMA recently objected to the proposed criteria to qualify for financial incentives under stage 2 of the "meaningful use" – the set of criteria physicians report to receive federal incentive payments for adopting and implementing electronic health records (EHR). Under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program, physicians can receive incentive payments as high as $44,000; under the Medicaid program, physicians can receive up to $63,750. CMA is concerned that stage 2 criteria will be difficult for small practice physicians to achieve by 2014, and made a number of recommendations for improving the criteria, including refining the process for selecting and reporting measures, allowing for group reporting, and giving physicians the option to keep or reassign incentives as they determine is appropriate.
