Governor Brown signed AB 1221 into law last Sunday, a bill sponsored by the California Medical Association (CMA) that resulted from a drunk-driving accident that killed two UCSD medical students in 2015. The law requires California bartenders, servers, and managers to receive responsible beverage service training in order to identify signs of overconsumption and learn how to safely intervene. The training will be developed by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control; eighteen other states already require such training. To read more, go to
