The California Medical Association (CMA) is lobbying Congress to pass a bill to extend funding for the 1.3 million children in the state’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) before California runs out of money at the end of December 2017. Congress failed to reauthorize the CHIP program by the end of the fiscal year on September 30. In the meantime, California’s CHIP program “is open for enrollment and continues to operate normally,” says the California Department of Health Services.
