The California Medical Association (CMA) sponsored a bill now on the Governor’s desk, which resulted from a drunk-driving accident that killed two UCSD medical students in 2015. The bill (AB 1221) would require California bartenders, servers, and managers to receive responsible beverage service training in order to identify signs of overconsumption and learn how to safely intervene. The training will be developed by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control; eighteen other states already require such training.
