If your office has insufficient internet connectivity, lacked access to certified EHR technology, or experienced extreme circumstances out of your control, you may qualify for a hardship exception from Medicare’s Quality Payment Program (QPP) for the 2017 reporting year. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is accepting applications for hardship exceptions from MACRA, which if accepted, would reweigh the Advancing Care Information performance category to 0 and reallocate its normal 25 percent weight to the quality performance category. To read more about hardship exceptions and to submit an application, go to the CMS website at https://qpp.cms.gov/about/hardship-exception. For help with participating in MACRA, contact the ACCMA at (510) 654-5383.
