The California Department of Public Health reported that vaccination rates for seventh-grade students reached the highest level ever recorded—98.4 percent of total seventh-grade enrollment, or an increase of 1.8 percent over the previous three years. This increase follows an earlier report that kindergarten vaccination rates hit record-high levels. Both increases are attributable to a stricter vaccination law that went into effect on July 1, 2016, which ended the “personal belief exemption,” public health outreach, parent awareness of vaccine-preventable diseases, and state audits of school vaccination data.
