Legislative Advocacy

ACCMA responds quickly to local, state and federal legislation and regulations affecting physicians. For example, in 1977, ACCMA stopped a federal attempt to invade physicians' offices to conduct an illegal Medi-Cal audit. More recently, ACCMA successfully challenged Medicare's inappropriate allegations of physician overcharging. These actions are made possible in part through donations to our political action committee (ACCPAC), a fund which supports candidates who have proven to be friends of medicine. Visit our Legislative Advocacy page for information on issues affecting the future of your practice.

Member Assistance

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is available to promptly answer any questions you may have regarding practice management, regulatory and legal issues. We are also here to advocate on your behalf to ensure proper reimbursement for your medical services. For assistance with any of your practice management needs, visit the Practice Management page of this site, e-mail your inquiry to accma@accma.org, or give our office a call at 510/ 654-5383. Let us worry about the hassles, so you can concentrate on practicing medicine.

Educational Seminars

Our sponsored series of practice management seminars covers a wide spectrum of topics throughout the year, including "Mini MBA for Physicians and Office Managers" and "Telephone, Scheduling and Patient Flow Techniques". New seminars are implemented as laws change, providing ACCMA members with the latest compliance information available on OSHA regulations, HIPAA, and any regulatory issues arising in the future.

Publications

ACCMA members receive the ACCMA Bulletin, a monthly magazine containing news articles and commentary of interest to members, and ACCMA Business, a brief news digest. Each member also receives two membership directories annually. The ACCMA Membership and Resource Directory contains pictures and listings according to specialty of our members, and is the only publication of its kind in the East Bay.

Web Site

Informative coverage of health care issues, convenient dues renewal and seminar registration, and instant access to practice management tools are just a few of the helpful features available at ACCMA.org.

Insurance Programs

Health, disability, life, workers' compensation, professional liability, and Medicare fraud insurance programs are available to members. Many of the plans are group plans which offer security and cost benefits not available in individual plans.

Mediation

ACCMA provides a mediation process for patients, third-party payors and physicians, clarifies billing questions with Medicare and Medi-Cal, educates patients about physcians' fees, and diffuses unnecessary legal actions.

Patient Referrals

The ACCMA maintains educational and specialty information on physicians for referral to patients. More than 2,000 patients are referred each month. The ACCMA Membership and Resource Directory is also a popular referral source for physicians, containing pictures and listings according to specialty of our more than 2,700 members. The ACCMA Directory is the only publication of its kind in the East Bay and is updated each year for members. In addition to these services, our Physician Locator feature is an on-line directory of our physician members. Complete listings of members' practice information are available at any time of the day or night to patients browsing the web.

Peer Review

ACCMA has a peer review process that maintains excellence within the medical profession. Peer review committees meet monthly to review cases concerning ethics, professional standards and professional liability.
